Unfortunately in 2009, global investment in low carbon energy dipped as project developers were hit by frozen credit market.  Hence the market saw investment in clean energy dominated by wind energy drop by 6.5 percent – to $145 billion from $155 billion in 2008 – as mentioned by research firm Bloomberg New Energy Finance. But the 6.5 percent drop in 2009 was owing to significant falls in certain regions. While investment dropped by 25 percent in the Americas, it rose in Asia-Oceania by 25 percent.  Hence Asia managed to leapfrog the Americas into second place behind Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The green police are optimistic about the future, as 2010 is predicted to be a very positive year for clean energy funds. We are expecting inflow of enough cash, where about 15% would be aided by the government for green projects. This would definitely provide better stimulus for solar energy, wind power and other natural resources.

Endangered Rainforest Animals

Rainforests contain one of the largest and most diverse ecosystems in the world, according to the green police. The abundance of rains, the lush greenery, and equitable temperatures all through the year, aptly make tropical rainforests home to more than half’s of the world’s animal species. But rainforests are fast dwindling in numbers and acreage. Rainforest countries like those in tropical Africa, south and Central America, and south and South East Asia are developing nations where the economic demands of an ever-expanding population gain precedence over conservation efforts. So the endangered rainforest animals look bereft of hope.

The Golden Lion Tamarind Monkey, chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan are some of the most publicized apes amongst the endangered rainforest animals and it can only be hoped that this publicity raises awareness on their plight. Rampant poaching and indiscriminate deforestation has led to the once-thriving Bengal tiger population decrease in numbers. Its relative, the jaguar, a resident of the southern and central parts of America, too suffers a similar fate.

The toucan and harpy eagle are the avian species that have been featured in the endangered rainforest animals list, amidst growing concerns about their loss of habitat. The manatee has been listed in IUCN’s Red List of vulnerable species and it is believed that if no remedial actions are taken to restore its habitat, more than 30 percent of the manatee population will be lost to the world in the next three decades.

Such is the overwhelming effect of rainforest destruction that the once proliferous gray mouse population is also under threat. The need of the hour is conservation efforts to rebuild the homes and habitats of these endangered rainforest animals.

Endangered African Animals

The vastness of the African continent houses a number of animal species. The word ‘Africa’ conjures images of mighty lions, swift cheetahs, graceful gazelles, strong rhinos, and a host of other interesting animals.
